3 Comfort Food Recipes for Rainy Days

Do you need comfort in late winter or early rainy spring? To help you regain your morale, we share 3 ideas for rainy day comfort food recipes. You can savour these recipes with your family, enjoy them with your loved one or all alone with a good book in hand.

  • Rougail sausages

To bring a little sunshine to your winter, don’t hesitate to prepare a Réunionnaise recipe. Yes, the famous “rougail sausages” is a comforting dish for a rainy day. To prepare it:

  •  Boil water, add 6 Aliments Roma sausages and cook for 3 minutes. 
  • After draining, cut the sausages into small 2.5 cm pieces and set aside.
  • Heat the olive oil in a pan and pour in 2 coarsely chopped onions, fry until they are translucent. 
  • Then add the sausages and cook for another 5 minutes  . 
  • Add 2 chopped garlic cloves, 1 piece of finely chopped ginger, 6 diced tomatoes, 1 thyme stalk, 1 pinch of cayenne pepper, 2 pinches of turmeric, 1 pinch of paprika and 125 ml of chicken broth.
  • Simmer everything over medium heat for 45 minutes.

All you have to do is wait for the mixture to become red and very consistent; enjoy!

  • Sausage Tortiglionis 

Take advantage of the rainy weather to spend a pleasant moment in the kitchen with the whole family. Young and old can help each other for the preparation of sausage tortiglionis: an easy comfort food recipe, all year round! 

  • Cook 250g tortiglionis in boiling water. Then add 4 cups of broccoli florets 2 minutes before the end of cooking. Once everything is well cooked, drain, remembering to keep 75 ml of the cooking water.
  •  Heat the oil in a pan and sauté 1 clove of finely chopped garlic for  a minute. Also put the flesh of the 4 Roma mild Italian sausages and wait until they are cooked through. 
  •  All that’s left is to pour the pasta, broccoli, 1 cup diced mozzarella cheese, 1 can of tomato sauce, 75 ml of water, 15 ml of honey. To decorate this rainy day comfort dish,  add 3 diced Italian tomatoes and finely chopped chives. 
  • Sausage and Vegetable Soup 

Everyone knows, a good soup is always good for you! For the preparation of this comforting recipe:

  •  Cook the meat of 1 lb of your favourite Roma Italian sausages in 15 ml of olive oil. 
  • Add 1 diced onion, chopped garlic, 2 diced carrots, 375 ml cabbage, 2 celery stalks and continue cooking for 2 minutes. 
  • Pour 1 l of beef broth and 1 can of diced tomatoes.
  • Season with salt and pepper according to individual tastes.
  • Simmer for 20 minutes. 
  • Pour 1 can of kidney beans and cook for another 5 minutes. 
  • Ratatouille Sausage casserole

The ratatouille Italian sausage casserole is one of our favourite healthy comfort food recipes to bring a touch of warmth on a cold day! To prepare it:

  • Put in the oven for 40 minutes a baking dish containing 1 red pepper cut into cubes, 1 yellow pepper, 2 onions and 2 cloves of finely chopped garlic. Add salt and pepper. 
  • Meanwhile, in 75 ml olive oil, cook 8 Roma Italian sausages. Once they are nicely browned, set aside.
  • With the rest of the oil, cook the zucchini and tomatoes for 3 minutes.
  • Add the sausages, zucchini and tomatoes to the pepper mixture and bake for 15 minutes.

Serve this comfort food on a rainy day  with a good slice of country bread, comfort guaranteed!
