From the Aliments Roma kitchen to yours, here are some of our best tips for cooking pancetta and making the most of this star ingredient in the Roma charcuterie line.
Cooking with Pancetta: endless possibilities
Pancetta is one of the signature ingredients of Italian cuisine. Best known as the foundation of true carbonara sauce, it also shines in many other recipes. Here are a few tasty ways to use it:
- In a minestrone or rustic soup for a rich, smoky flavour
- On a pizza or in a quiche for a crispy finishing touch
- In a warm salad with cheese and grilled vegetables
- Served raw as an antipasto, with melon or cheese, just like in Italy
How to cook Pancetta
- In a skillet – Sauté pancetta cubes or slices in a dry skillet over medium heat. No need for extra oil aspancetta brings its own fat. In just a few minutes, it becomes golden and crispy.
- In the oven – Perfect for cooking large quantities. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C), place pancetta slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 10 minutes until crispy.
Tip: Don’t precook pancetta if using it on pizza as it will crisp up while your dough bakes!
How to Store Pancetta
Roma pancetta can be kept in the fridge for up to 3 weeks if well wrapped. Freeze it and it will last even longer! Pancetta freezes well and is perfect for adding instant flavour to any last-minute dish.
