On Monday morning june 6th 2016, a notice of infraction was issued by the City of Montreal. He is stipulating that the outdoor sign and accompanying decorative flags were put up without obtaining the appropriate signage permit.
The sign has been there since 1969, probably before regulation of this sort existed, the flags have been there seasonally for every summer since 2003. They were introduced for the company’s 50th anniversary.
The city’s notice is the very first time we have been approached concerning the matter. He warns the company that it has 10 days to remove all flags. They must therefore obtain a permit for its outdoor sign, which has existed for 47 years. Failure to do so on both counts will result in a $1964 minimum fine for every day of non-compliance.
