The diversely flavoured star of the deli meat family, Roma sausage is an excellent source of protein and goes well with many different side dishes. When it comes to integrating sausage in your meal, you have a wealth of options: in a panini, in a couscous, in a soup, in some pasta or simply on the grill. Not sure of the best way to cook your sausage? No worries. Here are some tips.
Cooking Sausage in a Pan
Pan frying is the solution that will bring out the most flavour in your sausages and make them crispy. If you like, you can also feel free to add extra seasoning to them. Cook your sausages on low heat for 15 minutes, being sure to turn them over every 3 minutes.
Baking Sausage in the Oven
Baking is the easiest option that requires the least amount of work and attention. Simply bake your sausages on a baking sheet between 15 to 25 minutes at 350°F, being sure to turn them halfway through.
Steaming Sausage
If you like your sausages crispy, this is not the way to go. But steaming allows you to preserve sausage’s moistness and fat. In addition, it’s a great method for cooking sausages with your other favourite ingredients (stock, win, beer, herbs, etc.). For pre-cooked sausages, add them to boiling water for 10 minutes; 30 minutes for those that aren’t pre-cooked.
Sausage on the BBQ
Grilling sausage is ideal for hot weather and summer meals shared with friends and family. Depending on your BBQ, cooking times may vary. What’s important is keeping an eye on the grill to avoid burning your sausages. You can place your sausages on hotplates and cook them for 5 to 10 minutes.
