Kids are going back to school, and their lunch boxes aren’t lagging far behind!
Brown bagging your lunch is the way to go if you want to cut down on eating out, eat healthier and, above all, spend less.
In the spirit of back to school, we’re happy to provide 3 useful tips for preparing your (or your little ones’) daily lunches. As a sweet bonus, we’ve even thrown in a delicious, fast and easy recipe.
Tip #1: Organize and Plan!
The first tip, and the most obvious one, is get organized. Don’t wait until the last minute to prepare your lunch. As you’re walking the aisles of your grocery store, take a minute and plan your lunches for the week ahead. Make a list of menus and recipes that you can prepare, and another list of errands to pick up everything you need. This way, you won’t be stuck at the last minute with nothing to pack for your lunch.
Tip #2: Cook in Large Quantities!
Leftovers are wonderful for lunches, so make bigger batches of whatever you cook! Double that supper recipe to be sure to have extras for tomorrow’s lunch. If you’d rather not eat the same dish twice in a row, simply freeze your leftovers to keep them for later in the week.
Tip #3: Mix It Up!
Most people associate brown bagging with eating the same ol’ thing. To avoid getting tired of sandwiches 5 days in a row, put together a list of various recipes. Think outside the lunch box and beyond peanut butter and jelly!
If you have a place to reheat your lunches, the possibilities are pretty much endless. Cold lunches limit the options a little, but you can still enjoy pasta salads, rice, vegetables, sandwiches, paninis, cold quiches and much more.
Now that you’ve become a lunch box pro, here’s an easy and sumptuous recipe for your next lunch!
